Post Office Private Box

• Rental period
  • The boxes are rented on annual basis and the initial minimum period of rental is twelve months with effect from the day on which the box is supplied and this is renewable at the discretion of Postmaster General.
• Free shared use – “free” shared use of a box is normally allowed in the following circumstances
  • In the case of a FIRM: its proprietor and subsidiary companies with the same business registration number (relevant document such as business registration certificate copy verifying the relationship must be submitted);
  • In the case of a PERSON: his/her immediate family members (i.e. natural mother or father, wife or husband recognized by law, natural son or natural daughter) (relevant document such as birth or marriage certificate copy verifying the relationship must be submitted).
  • Box renters may apply for shared use of their boxes in accordance with the Conditions of Rental stipulated in the application form. Persons sharing a box are each required to pay 75% of the full rental of the box
• Lock Bag service
  • The post office (private) lock bag service is a credible service of post office private box which makes sending and collecting mails more convenient. It also prevents contents of mails from disclosure in the course of transportation. The annual charge is $370.
  • The user must provide two bags, each with a lock and two keys, the bags must be of a type approved by the Postmaster General. The user must have a P.O. Box number to which their correspondence is addressed.
  • The service may be used either for collecting mail from, or for posting it at, a nominated post office. It may be used for both purposes; if it is, a double rental charge is made

  • Application forms downloaded from Hongkong Post website
• The completed application form together with the required document can be handed to any post office or sent by post to PO Box section, 5/F Central Mail Centre, 1 Wang Chin Street, Kowloon Bay, Kowloon, Hong Kong.

In response to the relocation plan of the General Post Office (GPO), applications for Post Office Private Box at the General Post Office are now suspended.
