FAQ
What shall I do if the mail item I post is withheld by the customs authority?
Duties/taxes and related charges (if applicable) are generally paid at a customs office or collected by a postal administration over the counter or upon delivery, depending on the value of the item. Once an item is withheld by the customs authority:
- inform the recipient to act upon the instructions advised by the customs authority or postal administration. Customs authority or postal administration will usually notify the recipient by means of letter, email, phone call or SMS, depending on the arrangements of destinations’ authorities.
- Time required for customs clearance varies between different customs authorities. Neither could Hongkong Post nor postal administration at the destination/transit country intervene the clearance process or decision taken by local customs authority. Customs authority reserves the rights of not to disclose any relevant information and will not inform Hongkong Post of the status of the mail item in question either.
