Can mails sent to old address to a new address? How to apply for it?
When moving home or office, you may apply for mail redirection service from the Post Office to redirect mails sent to the old address to the new address. Private and business redirection service are available:
- Private redirection (for redirecting mails addressed to individuals, including charities)
- If different family members at the same private address need to have mails redirected to the same new address, only one application is required.
- Business redirection (for redirecting mails to an address at which business is carried on for a profit)
- If there are more than one companies at the same address, each company has to apply separately
- The redirection service also covers the mails without the company name but addressed to the company owner (director, proprietor, partner or authorised responsible person of the company) if the above information has been clearly stated in the same application form. No separate application is required.
- If an employee of a company want to have the mails addressed him to be redirected, he needs to apply for private redirection service individually and is required to produce a letter issued by the company certifying that the employee is working at the address and that the company has no objection to the redirection application.
Application Procedures
Form
When completing the application form, please note that -
Private redirection
- All applicants listed in the application form shall provide the English alphabet and the first 3 digits of their Hong Kong identity card or passport (whichever applicable) (or the birth certificate number in the case of an applicant who is under the age of 11 at the time of submission of the application) and their names in both English and Chinese as appeared in the identity document.
- The form must be signed by the principal applicant
Business Redirection
- Applicant should state a valid Business Registration Certificate number with an impression of the company chop. If company chop is not available, this form must be signed by director or authorised person of the company.
- If the company owner (director, proprietor, partner or authorised responsible person) would like the Post Office to redirect mails sent to him at the address, but without the company name, the personal names should be stated in both English and Chinese as appeared in the identity document, and "owner" should be stated next to the names.
- This form must be signed by responsible person(s) of the Company to whom any postal packets to be redirected are addressed.
Supporting Documents
Private Redirection
- Photocopy or digital copy of identity documents of all applicants
- Valid proof of the old address issued within the last 3 months from the date of submission of the application (e.g. electricity/telephone/water/gas bill. For details, please see Terms and Conditions (2) )
- If an employee of a company want to have the mails addressed him to be redirected, a letter issued by the company certifying that the employee is working at the address and that the company has no objection to the redirection application has to be provided
Business Redirection
- Photocopy or digital copy of the latest valid Business Registration Certificate
- Valid proof of the old address issued within the last 3 months from the date of submission of the application (e.g. electricity/telephone/water/gas bill. For details, please see Terms and Conditions (2))
- If the company owner would like the Post Office to redirect mails sent to him at the address, but without the company name, photocopy or digital copy of identity document is required
Means of Submission
An application shall be submitted either:
- By hand to any post office of Hongkong Post; or
- By post to the Mail Redirection Section, Wanchai Delivery Office, 2 /F, Wu Chung House, 213 Queen's Road East, Wanchai, Hong Kong
Fee
- Private redirection: $136 for the first 3 months and $172 for each succeeding 6 months thereafter
- Business redirection: $409 for the first 3 months and $512 for each succeeding 6 months thereafter
Payment Method
- Cash; or
- Crossed cheque (payable to "Postmaster General") Please pay by crossed cheque if you submit by post.
Handling Time
5 working days is required to process the application.
Maximum Service Period of Mail Redirection Service
- General mails: 15 months
- Business replies: 3 months
