Senders can track a mail item using the mail tracking service of Hongkong Post, except the following types of mail item.
Outward ordinary surface mail / air mail (i.e. The mail item does not have an item number.)
Inward ordinary surface mail / air mail (i.e. The mail item does not have an item number.)
Mail items returned from other destinations without any item number
All non-local postal administrations will not help track an item if no item number is available. For mail items returned from other destinations without any item number, if the sender would like to know the reason for non-delivery, he / she is advised to send a copy of the front and back of the envelope of the returned mail item to the addressee and ask the addressee to check with his / her local postal service provider.

Senders must, within 5 months from the date of mailing, raise a request to check the delivery status of the mail item. Senders can track an item in the following way:

Please visit the post office at which the item was posted and provide details such as the date of mailing, the name of addressee and the address to the counter staff for mail tracking.
Any item sent as ordinary mail does not have an item number for mail tracking. Under normal circumstances, ordinary mail will only be delivered according to the addresses without being recorded. The Hongkong Post does not provide tracking service for local ordinary mail.

Hongkong Post will try to track the item with the name of sender and addressee, the address, etc. However, it may take a longer time if the item number cannot be provided.
If a mail item is returned from other destinations (with a valid address but without reason for return indicated), the sender can make an enquiry about the reason for return, provided that an item number is available. An Enquiry Form Pos28B should be completed and submitted with proof of mailing, and a copy of the front and back of the wrapping of the returned item to Hongkong Post:
Hongkong Post will check with the local postal administration for the reason for return.
Senders can, within 6 months from the date of mailing, make a request to track an inward registered / insured mail item or a parcel. Senders can track an item in the following way:
