The Government has set a target of reducing 5% of electricity consumption for all government buildings over the period of 2015/16 to 2019/20 under comparable operating conditions, using 2013/14 as the baseline. In 2016/17, the normalised electricity consumption was reduced by 11.87% when compared with the base year 2013/14.
For CMC, we have started a trial project of smart meters and chiller plant optimisation to reduce the electricity consumption of chillers.
To reduce GHG emissions from government buildings with high energy consumption, we will conduct carbon audit at the CMC, AMC and GPO in 2017/18. It helps assess the carbon performance and further identify measures for emissions reduction and energy saving.
In May 2016, HKP introduced a new mail collection service using a Mail Collection Number (MCN), and installed a network of iPostal Stations throughout the territory to enable self-service mail collection. In October 2016, we launched a new model of iPostal Station that incorporates Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology, developed in association with the Hong Kong R&D Centre for Logistics and Supply Chain Management Enabling Technologies (LSCM R&D Centre). This has enhanced the operation flow and the user-friendliness of the system.
As at 31 March 2017, iPostal Stations had been set up at 12 services points throughout Hong Kong.
We are extending the use of e-platforms for wider use of e-forms, e-notification and e-billing so as to reduce paper consumption. We will also further promote our online service platforms and encourage our customers to switch to green packaging.
We will continue to provide support of all our staff to our corporate green programmes by raising staff awareness of environmental protection issues, sharing best practices for implementation in our daily operations, and encouraging suggestions for more efficient use of resources and energy in the workplace.
