The operating environment of Hongkong Post is constantly changing. Training and development programmes are provided to equip our staff at different levels with an understanding of the dynamics of the postal industry as well as the capability to meet challenges.

Training and Development

A key objective of our training and development programme is to develop a market-responsive team that possesses the necessary competencies to achieve consistently high levels of customer satisfaction and is able to meet the challenges of a changing environment. In 2012/13, we conducted 30,390 days of training covering the full spectrum of our business. By developing the competencies and capabilities of our staff, we aim to maintain a motivated and committed workforce in Hongkong Post.

Training Highlights

Managerial staff play an important leadership role at Hongkong Post in ensuring that, as a service organisation, we meet the demands and expectations of our customers. For newly-recruited managers, the induction training programme helps to develop their competencies in various aspects, including knowledge on local and international postal services, leadership, resource management and customer service. The programme is supplemented by a study visit to other postal operators. Managerial officers are offered sponsorship to attend postgraduate course at local universities. In addition, seminars and workshops are held regularly for managerial staff to share experience and learn about the latest postal trends.

We provide a full range of courses on different operational functions as well as occupational safety and health courses for frontline staff. To prepare frontline staff for higher responsibilities, supervisory skills workshops were organised. A new Competence Development Programme was launched in June 2012 for postmen to foster their commitment to upkeep service quality.

A core value of Hongkong Post – to excel through development – underlies the promotion of continuous self-learning within the department. Diverse e-learning programmes, such as English and Putonghua courses for counter and delivery staff, customer service skills training for counter staff and interactive computer usage packages, have been uploaded onto the Hongkong Post Intranet to enable all ranks of staff to learn anytime, anywhere.
