Retail Business

Hongkong Post’s 128 post offices, including two mobile post offices, form an extensive, visible and convenient network of service delivery points throughout the territory. We are always on the lookout for new initiatives to expand the service capability of this retail infrastructure.

PayThruPost

The opening up of more payment channels for government bills has led to a drop in PayThruPost business volume. We launched a promotion campaign from August to November 2012 to foster customer loyalty.

PostShop Products

The postal-related souvenirs on sale at Hongkong Post have long been highly sought after by the public. We have continued to enrich the product range in response to customer demand. New additions include USB flash drives in the shape of vintage and modern style street posting boxes, and a crystal vintage street posting box set. An engraving service is offered for the crystal vintage street posting boxes to enable corporate customers to personalise their gifts.

The stamp designs celebrating the Year of the Dragon and the Year of the Snake are used on reusable canvas bags for sale to the public. These handmade bags were manufactured by a local social enterprise and have been well received by the market.

Remittance Service

Hongkong Post provides two types of remittance services: postal remittance service at all 126 post offices and electronic remittance service of Western Union at 21 selected post offices.

Following the introduction of the Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorist Financing (Financial Institutions) Ordinance on 1 April 2012, Hongkong Post has implemented customer due diligence checking and other record-keeping measures as required under the new legislation.

Trade Declaration Service

Hongkong Post has been an agent for the service providers of Government Electronic Trading Services to connect paper-based trade declarations over the counter. With the extension of the service to four more post offices (Tsat Tsz Mui, Wyndham Street, Gillies Avenue and To Kwa Wan) in 2012/13, the service is now available at 24 post offices.

Facilitating “Scheme $6,000”

Under the Government’s “Scheme $6,000” in March 2011, Hongkong Post was appointed as the sole agent to provide registration and payment services to eligible applicants who do not have a local bank account in their sole name. All 126 post offices accepted registration forms and 56 designated post offices also serve as cheque distribution centres. By March 2013, over 471,000 applications were processed by Hongkong Post and about 400,000 cheques were collected over post office counters.

e-Services

ShopThruPost

Our online shopping mall - ShopThruPost (www.shopthrupost.hk) – is an effective online shopping platform to extend the market reach of local companies, especially small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs). New merchants joining ShopThruPost last year included local designers and social enterprises to promote their products locally and worldwide.

The Gift Fulfilment Service under ShopThruPost offers a variety of merchandise for gift-giving on festive occasions such as the Mid-Autumn Festival, Christmas, the Lunar New Year and Valentine’s Day. Local destinations as well as destinations in Mainland China and Macao are covered. This service continued to receive a good market response in 2012/13.

e-Cert

Hongkong Post Certification Authority (HKPCA) is the only public recognised certification authority in Hong Kong. There is steady growth in business due to increasing public awareness of cyber security. In June 2012, HKPCA launched a new e-Cert storage medium, e-Cert File USB, as well as 2,048-bit key length e-Cert.
