We launched the barrier-free access programme in 2011 to enhance public accessibility to our postal services. So far, barrier-free public access facilities, such as accessible passages and service counters, induction loops, tactile guide paths and visual fire alarms, have been installed at 79 of our 126 post offices. We target to complete the programme by June 2014.
PostCare Club promotes a community spirit amongst staff. During the past year, Club members, together with their families, participated in a range of volunteer activities to assist the needy. These activities included organising tutorial classes for children from new arrival families and visiting elderly people who live on their own or in homes for the aged.
In 2012/13, donations were raised through staff participation in The Community Chest of Hong Kong’s “Corporate and Employee Contribution Programme” and various Community Chest special events such as “New Territories Walk for Millions”, “Green Day”, “Love Teeth Day” and “Skip Lunch Day”. Hongkong Post also supported other local charitable organisations such as the Children’s Heart Foundation and the Hong Kong Society for Rehabilitation by publicising their activities at the workplace.
Hongkong Post participated in a number of programmes designed to help young people make the transition from schools and universities to the workplace.
In summer 2012, 17 students took part in the Post-Secondary Student Summer Internship Programme to gain first-hand experience in human resource management, accounting, market research and information technology development and to learn about the operation of a government department. Under the Job Shadowing Programme organised by Junior Achievement Hong Kong, we hosted a one-day programme for 15 Form 5 students to gain an understanding of the workplace in operation.
Hongkong Post takes part in the Social Welfare Department’s Sunnyway Programme, which provides job attachment training opportunities to young people with disabilities. In 2012/13, two youngsters successfully completed their training at Hongkong Post and acquired job-related and interpersonal skills in a work environment.
In 2012, Hongkong Post launched a new initiative in support of local social enterprises by offering its online shopping platform, i.e. ShopThruPost, to promote their merchandise. Canvas bags carrying “Year of the Dragon” and “Year of the Snake” stamp designs and manufactured in collaboration with a local social enterprise went on sale in January 2013.
