In 2012/13, Hongkong Post handled 1.36 billion mail items, representing a 3.6% increase over 2011/12. This translated into an average daily mail volume of 3.73 million items.
In 2012/13, local mail saw an increase of 3.5% over 2011/12 and accounted for 83.6% of total mail traffic. International mail, which accounted for the remaining 16.4% of traffic, registered a 4.3% increase over 2011/12. The major destinations for outgoing international letters and parcels were the United States, Australia, the United Kingdom, Mainland China and Japan.
Hongkong Post`s total operating revenue in 2012/13 was HK$5,176 million, an increase of 3.2% over 2011/12. The growth in operating revenue, however, was more than offset by the 4.5% increase in operating costs, resulting in an operating loss of HK$114 million for the year. The rate of return on average net fixed assets was -3.9% in 2012/13.
