Hongkong Post constantly looks ahead to identify new products and services.

Local Mail Business

Smart Post

Riding the upward trend of internet trading, we will launch a new service, Smart Post, in 2013/14. Apart from e-notification and online checking of delivery status, the service also allows mailers to opt, at the time of posting, for mail collection by the recipient at a specified post office.

Mechanised Letter Sorting System

Our Mechanised Letter Sorting System, which can sort letters addressed in English, will be further enhanced to sort letters addressed in Chinese. It will have a daily capacity of 91,000 Chinese addressed items.

Closer Connections with Customers

For the mutual benefit of Hongkong Post and business customers, we will continue to explore work-sharing opportunities to reduce our operating costs while allowing bulk posting customers to enjoy high quality postal services at attractive prices.

Retail Business

Fully Utilising the Retail Network

Capitalising on the high visitor traffic of our extensive post office network, we plan to invite tenders for the installation of Automated Teller Machines in post offices in phases from 2013/14. Following the trial installation of LCD television screens in selected post offices for the display of promotional messages during the past year, we will explore the viability of installing these screens at more post offices. We will also extend PostShop outlets to another five post offices at Tai O, Stanley, Mui Wo, Lamma and Peng Chau in order to capture the business opportunities in these popular visitor destinations.

Integrated Postal Services System

We are developing an Integrated Postal Services System to streamline operational procedures by integrating various IT systems within the department. The new system will improve the efficiency of counter services and enhance resource planning. It will be rolled out in phases with full implementation by the end of 2015.

Speedpost

In response to changing market needs, Speedpost will strengthen its brand image as a personal courier service while focusing on those markets with higher potential. To meet the demands of the growing B2C market, we will work with other members of the KPG as well as the postal administrations in markets with strong potential to enhance service capability.

We will also continue to improve the user-friendliness of the Speedpost service. The second phase of the revamping of the Speedpost website will be completed for roll-out in mid-2014 to provide more online functions for customer convenience.

International Mail Business

e-Express Service to New Destinations

The e-Express service was launched in April 2011, initially to the US, to offer an economical postal solution with online mail tracking function for internet traders and shoppers. We are discussing with several postal authorities the potential of expanding this popular service to additional destinations.

Postal Infrastructure

Enhancing Retail Service Environment

Collaborating with the Hong Kong Design Centre, Hongkong Post has adopted a new user-centric office design for the post office network. Following the renovation of Mong Kok Post Office, the new design was applied to the newly reprovisioned Johnston Road Post Office and Cheung Sha Wan Post Office in 2012/13. This design concept will be extended to other post offices upon renovation or reprovisioning.
