Traffic in international letter mail has been on a downward trend , but with the growth in online shopping, traffic in packets has been on the rise. Hongkong Post has been working with its international partners to meet the service needs arising from this development.
e-Express, a new service launched in 2011 for packets up to 2 kg to the United States, saw a healthy growth in 2012/13. The service has user-friendly features such as online mail tracking which are welcomed by online traders and shoppers.
EC-Ship is a one-stop online platform for users to prepare and print labels and make online payment for registered air mail, air parcels, Speedpost and e-Express items. In November 2012, the EC-Ship portal was further enhanced to accept posting of Local CourierPost items. Ten post offices were added to the network of post offices accepting EC-Ship postings, bringing the total to 39.
The Bulk Air Mail service offers postage discounts for bulk postings of air mail items based on a work-sharing principle and variations in the despatch standard. A number of measures were introduced in 2012/13 for the service to streamline procedures and enhance operational efficiency.
Hongkong Post fully supports the UPU and the International Civil Aviation Organisation in their drive to ensure aviation security by tackling the posting of dangerous goods. We are particularly vigilant in the screening and detection of dangerous goods in air mail postings. We have also stepped up public education on the prohibition of posting of dangerous goods by air.
