Postal Infrastructure

Central Mail Centre

The Central Mail Centre is a new, integrated mail sorting centre to house the existing International Mail Centre in Hung Hom and the sorting office at the General Post Office in Central. Construction works will be completed in mid-2013. The building design has incorporated modern environmental considerations and machines withstate-of-the-art technology will be installed to enhance efficiency in mail processing. A dedicated team has been formed to ensure a seamless migration to the new site across all aspects of operations. The relocation to the new facility will be carried out in phases and completed by the end of 2014.

Upgrading Post Office Facilities

We have started a programme to renovate post offices to improve operational efficiency. By March 2013, 39 post offices had been refurbished, including three post offices which adopted a new user-centric design to enhance customer experience.

Full Utilisation of Postal Infrastructure

We have embarked on an initiative to fully utilise our postal infrastructure during the past year. Some 1,600 mail storage boxes located throughout the territory were used for promoting the 2012 Hong Kong Design Year, the Youth Employment and Training Programme, the Youth Work Experience and Training Scheme, etc. In addition, the newly refurbished Mong Kok Post Office has been equipped with liquid crystal display (LCD) television screens to promote Hongkong Post’s own services and other useful messages to the public.
