HONGKONG POST'S HIGH QUALITY STAMPS AND PHILATELIC PRODUCT ATTRACT A LARGE FOLLOWING NOT ONLY LOCALLY, BUT ALSO OVERSEAS AND IN MAINLAND CHINA.
The special stamps issued by Hongkong Post are well received both within and outside Hong Kong for their attractive designs. In 2011/12, we issued eight sets of special stamps, four stamp sheetlets and one Heartwarming Stamps mini-pane on a diversity of themes that appealed to different interests.
This year's stamp collection has broken new ground with the issue of a silk stamp sheetlet to mark the Year of the Dragon, add-on stickers for stamps on the theme of "Chinese Idioms and Their Stories", a shield-shaped stamp to celebrate the 150th Anniversary of Queen's College, and a Heartwarming Stamps mini-pane which came with the fragrance of roses.
A number of special stamp issues celebrated historical milestones. Commemorative stamps and sheetlets were issued to mark the 170th Anniversary of Hong Kong postal service, the 150th Anniversary of the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce, the Centenary of The University of Hong Kong and the 1911 Xinhai Revolution.
The Mainland Scenery Series No.10: Dunhuang Grottoes and The Complete Mainland Scenery Series Stamp Sheetlet introduced collectors to the magnificent landscape and heritage treasures in China. Hongkong Post also paid tribute to the traditional handicrafts of Hong Kong and Romania through a joint stamp issue featuring the handicrafts made by master craftsmen in the two places. The Hong Kong Museums Collection, the second issue in the series, highlighted six treasures from local museums, showcasing the multiple facets of the rich culture of Hong Kong. The Year of the Dragon series conveyed a festive spirit with its vibrant colours and joyous design and the Gold and the Silver Stamp Sheetlet on Lunar New Year Animals, each featuring a set of 12 Chinese zodiac animals, celebrated the traditional Spring Festival.
Our stamps do not just celebrate the past, they also look to the future. The Green Living special stamps helped spread the message of conserving precious resources on Earth. A stamp sheetlet for the new Central Government Offices at Tamar signified the Government's governance philosophy and people's vision for the city.
Our customised gift service caters not only for corporate clients, but also government departments and community organisations. It offers a one-stop stamp-themed souvenir gift service from design, production to delivery. In response to customer needs, we developed two new layouts of stamp panes under our Heartwarming Stamps Customised Service. The new designs have enriched our product range, attracted new customers and enhanced the profile of Hongkong Post's souvenir products and services for the community at large.
Hongkong Post continues to promote interest in stamps and stamp collecting through educational programmes and promotional campaigns. During the past year, our efforts in promoting philately to students focused on heritage conservation and urban revitalisation, and we took the message to schools and other educational institutions.
