We take pride in being a socially responsible organisation. We nurture a culture of care for the community in our service delivery and encourage our staff to put this culture into practice outside the workplace as well. This effort has earned us a "Caring Organisation" award from The Hong Kong Council of Social Service.
Hongkong Post actively supports charitable activities in the local community. We encourage staff to participate in The Community Chest's Corporate and Employee Contribution Programme by making regular donations. In addition, staff have raised funds for the needy by participating in The Community Chest's themed fund-raising events such as Green Day, Love Teeth Day and Skip Lunch Day.
The PostCare Club disseminates the message of love and care through participation in a variety of voluntary services for the needy. These included holding English tutorial classes for immigrant children to help them integrate into the community, assisting physically challenged children with their homework, cleaning and refurbishing the homes of the elderly and people who live alone, and organising social gatherings for the aged. Hongkong Post's senior management, together with members of the PostCare Club, participated in The Community Chest's "2011/2012 New Territories Walk for Millions" held in February 2012.
In the summer of 2011, 16 students completed their internship under the Post-Secondary Student Summer Internship Programme at Hongkong Post. The programme targets full-time students attending local or overseas post-secondary institutions. Participants completed short-term assignments in Hongkong Post. In the process, they learnt about the operation of a government department and acquired experience relevant to their fields of study or interest, such as accounting, human resources, management and information system development.
To help foster a closer relationship with local schools, Hongkong Post has joined the Job Shadowing Programme organised by the Junior Achievement Hong Kong. On 7 March 2012, we hosted 15 Form 5 students to foster their understanding of the workplace and develop their work-readiness.
We have continued to support the Social Welfare Department's Sunnyway Programme, a job attachment training scheme which offers young people with disabilities the opportunity to gain work experience, and to acquire employment skills and good work habits in real-life work environment. In 2011/12, two young persons successfully completed their training under the programme at Hongkong Post.
