Participating in International Postal Bodies

Hongkong Post continues to participate actively in two important multilateral postal bodies - the Universal Postal Union (UPU) and the Asian-Pacific Postal Union (APPU) as part of the Chinese delegation. Hongkong Post sits on the UPU's Express Mail Service Cooperative Board, which seeks to improve worldwide Express Mail Service standards. Hongkong Post also co-chairs the UPU's Letter Mail Product Development and Marketing Group, which seeks to provide improved services to customers and generate more traffic for members by enhancing current services and developing new letter post products.

The APPU is an inter-governmental organisation of 32 postal administrations of the Asian-Pacific region and is affiliated to the UPU. The purpose of the APPU is to extend, facilitate and improve postal relations among member countries and promote cooperation.

In addition, Hongkong Post is actively involved in promoting quality service and regional co-operation among postal administrations within the Asia-Pacific region through our membership of the Asia Pacific Post Cooperative under the APPU. Hongkong Post has been chairing the Cooperative Management Board of the Asia Pacific Post Cooperative since November 2007.

Hongkong Post is also a member of the Kahala Posts Group (KPG), which is a strategic alliance of 10 key postal administrations that aims to enhance the service quality of Express Mail Service within the KPG network. KPG actively promotes new services to meet the demands of customers in the e-Commerce market by simplifying the delivery process and speeding up the customs clearance process.

Partnering with Other Postal Administrations

Apart from participating in multilateral postal bodies, Hongkong Post has engaged other postal administrations to deliberate matters of mutual concern, e.g. handling of international mail traffic, enhancement of existing service offerings, development of new products, joint stamp issues, etc. The e-Express Service to the US, for example, is a new service developed in collaboration with the United States Postal Service to cater specifically for US-bound internet-traded items.

Given the significant growth in the mail traffic between Hong Kong and Mainland China, we also maintain a dialogue with the China Post Group on tapping the market.
