The existing International Mail Centre (IMC) located at Hung Hom will be relocated to an alternative site at Wang Chin Street in Kowloon Bay, to make way for the construction of the Shatin-to-Central Railway. To maximise the site development potential and streamline mail sorting capabilities, we will also relocate the sorting office at the General Post Office (GPO) in Central to the new building. By consolidating mail sorting activities at a single facility with its improved building design, systems and equipment, we will gain operational efficiency and facilitate the potential redevelopment of the site currently occupied by GPO.
The internal layout of the new building will be simple and flexible, allowing for the long–term development of postal operations. Mechanisation plans are also under close scrutiny to ensure value-for-money and compatibility with our business outlook. Construction is scheduled to be completed in mid-2013 and the sorting facilities at IMC and GPO will be relocated to the new building in stages in mid-2014 and early 2015 respectively.
A new Financial and Accounting System (FAS) was implemented in April 2011. The new system will improve integration across all internal systems, enabling a streamlined workflow for accounting and financial activities and providing timely financial management information for analysis and cost control.
