Hongkong Post serves 2.96 million residential and business addresses across Hong Kong through its network of 128 post offices which are integral to the city's interests. In 2010/11, we handled 1.28 billion mail items, a decrease of 2% compared with 2009/10, but still representing an average of 3.49 million mail items per day.
Local mail, which accounts for 84.1 % of the total traffic handled, dropped by 2.2% compared with the previous year. International mail, which makes up the remaining 15.9% of traffic, declined by 1.2% compared with the previous year.
The major destinations for outgoing international letter mail and parcel traffic were the United States, Australia, the United Kingdom, the Mainland of China and Japan.
Hongkong Post recorded a total revenue of HK$4,721 million in 2010/11, a slight decrease of 0.6% compared with the previous year. This was mainly attributed to a decrease in postings of bulk air mail and local ordinary mail.
Operating costs for the year were HK$4,585 million, an increase of 1.5% compared with the previous year. Profit from operations totalled HK$136 million, representing a rate of return of 3.8% on Average Net Fixed Assets.
Self-Service Postal Kiosk Provides One-stop Shop Service A self-service postal kiosk, which provides a one-stop shop service for customers to weigh mail items, assess postage and print the required labels, was launched on a trial basis at the eCentre, Hennessy Road Post Office and Tuen Mun Central Post Office in April 2010, August 2010 and February 2011 respectively. |

Registration for use of the Road Cargo System (ROCARS) A one-stop shop agency service was launched for the Customs and Excise Department in May 2010 at 16 post offices to facilitate registration for the use of the ROCARS. |

Economy Express Service to the Mainland Grows Economy Express Service was extended beyond its introductory Guangdong catchment to include Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai and Chongqing as well as Hubei province. The service proved popular and a tactical promotional programme was launched later in October 2010 to promote the service. |

Implementation of the Flight Space Control System A Flight Space Control System was implemented to keep track of the uploading of air mail and the availability and utilisation of flight space. The programme also facilitates flight space planning at the Air Mail Centre to despatch outward air mail. |

Launch of EC-Ship Service EC-Ship Service with online functions was launched to help internet traders prepare shipping labels and customs declaration forms for the mailing of Speedpost, parcel and registered items. The system also enables users to check their posting history and maintain their own address books. Opt-out Sticker Scheme for Hongkong Post Circular Service An opt-out sticker scheme was introduced in September 2010 for members of the public to choose not to receive circular mail made through the Hongkong Post Circular Service. |

"Appreciation Month" To show our appreciation for the continuous support of our customers and to showcase the achievement of our staff in the area of customer service, a series of activities were launched during the month including a "Care from the Heart" exhibition, "Encourage Badges" for staff and specially-designed Octopus card holders for customers. "Meet-the-Customer" sessions were arranged at designated post offices by managerial staff to listen to feedback from customers face-to-face. |

Bilateral Postage-Paid-By-Addressee Service to Macau Speedpost introduced a bilateral Postage-Paid-By-Addressee Service to Macau in March 2011, facilitating the business of Hong Kong companies with branch offices or retail outlets in Macau that require frequent exchange of documents or merchandise. Kowloon Speedpost Operations Centre Commenced Operation The Kowloon Speedpost Operations Centre which centralises Speedpost pick-up and delivery services across all regions in Kowloon commenced operation in March 2011. |
