Like most postal administrations around the world, Hongkong Post has been experiencing keen challenges from the widespread trend towards electronic communication, or “e-substitution”. We anticipate this trend will continue in coming years. To counter its negative impact on mail volume, we have been focusing on various initiatives in 2009/10.
Hongkong Post has been promoting e-commerce through bilateral agreements and international conferences to explore business opportunities and exchange ideas and experience among overseas postal administrations on an annual basis. Locally, Hongkong Post jointly organised seminars with major e-trade platforms such as eBay Hong Kong on a monthly basis to promote Hongkong Post’s products and services. A postal solution called e-Express service, specially designed to cater for Internet traders’ needs, has been introduced for delivering packets to the USA and Australia.
We continue to enhance the online platform of the Hongkong Post Circular Service to provide greater convenience for customers. To improve on the existing opt-out arrangement, we have introduced a new arrangement starting from September 2010 to provide individual recipients with the choice of opting out from receiving circular mail at their address.
Cross-border direct mail is a good business proposition. Hongkong Post is working closely with China Post to enhance and extend this service over the coming year to cover more cities in the Mainland of China.
We have upgraded the facilities in the two e-Post Centres, which enable us to strengthen our competitive edge to capture more business in the market.
