Facing the challenge of a forced increase in international postage

The Terminal Dues System is an international cross-charging mechanism by which payments are made to destination postal administrations for the delivery of mail. The new mechanism of the system implemented in 2010 is expected to bring a significant rise in terminal dues expenditure over the current and coming few years.

Active promotion of e-commerce

Hongkong Post organised the first Universal Postal Union (UPU) e-Commerce Conference 2009 in Hong Kong on May 21 - 22, 2009. Under the theme off “Delivering e-Commerce to the People”, 75 participants from 19 postal administrations and related industries attended the event. The main objective of the conference was to discuss how members could capitalise on the business opportunities arising from the e-commerce boom. The participants concluded that e-commerce was a profitable business and efforts would be fostered in coordinating e-commerce projects among postal operators.
